Thread engages underperforming high school students confronting significant barriers outside of the classroom by providing each one with a family of committed volunteers and increased access to community resources. They foster students’ academic advancement and personal growth into self-motivated, resilient and responsible citizens. Thread currently serves 303 students and alumni who are supported by 1200+ volunteers and collaborators at three high schools in Baltimore City.
As a Georgetown University Certified Health Coach, Owner of Sunlight & Yoga Holistic Wellness Center, and Founder and Chief Yoga Officer of the Black Male Yoga Initiative, Changa Bell has dedicated his life to educate, engage and encourage people to connect with their purpose and increase attention to self-care via holistic health practices. Bell's recent book, Affirmations for Dads, is helping to heal father's across the Nation. He is a cultural activist and advocates internationally for health equity.
